Three-Day Intensive Ceramics Course for Adults

6, 7 and 9 July 2026
17:00–21:00 each day
49,900 ISK per person
For beginners and intermediate makers aged 16+

Spend three focused summer evenings exploring the complete ceramic-making process inside the Studio Esja pottery studio.

This intensive twelve-hour course introduces pottery-wheel throwing, hand-building, botanical relief and surface design. With individual guidance, you will develop your skills while beginning a personal collection of functional ceramic pieces.

You may create cups, bowls, plates, serving dishes, sculptural vessels or botanical relief work. Beginners will receive clear instruction through every stage, while participants with previous experience can focus on refining their technique, improving consistency and creating more intentional forms.

The course is designed to give you enough time to experiment, learn and develop several connected pieces rather than completing only one short project.

What You Will Learn

Pottery-Wheel Throwing

Learn how to prepare and centre clay, open the form, pull the walls and create simple cups, bowls and vessels.

Hand-Building

Explore pinching, coiling and slab construction to create functional, sculptural and irregular forms by hand.

Botanical Relief

Press flowers, grasses and leaves into clay to capture their natural forms and create plates, dishes, tiles or wall pieces.

Surface Design

Develop the visual identity of your collection through texture, carving, stamping, coloured slips, underglazes and glaze.

Create Pottery for Everyday Life

The aim is to create pottery that is both beautiful and useful.

Your collection may include:

  • A favourite coffee or tea cup
  • Breakfast bowls
  • Small plates
  • Serving dishes
  • Botanical relief pieces
  • Sculptural vessels
  • A personal statement piece

You will be encouraged to consider how the pieces relate through shape, texture, scale and surface.

Suitable for Beginners and Intermediate Makers

No previous experience is required.

Beginners will receive clear, step-by-step demonstrations and close guidance. Intermediate makers can focus on consistency, control, refinement and developing a more personal ceramic language.
